The Environmental Research Aircraft and Sensor Technology, or ERAST program was a NASA program to develop cost-effective, slow-flying unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) that can perform long-duration science missions at altitudes ab feet. The project included a number of technology development programs conducted by the joint NASA-industry ERAST Alliance. Throughout his year NASA career, Clardy has served in a number of systems engineering, program and project management, and organizational management positions. He began his career in in Marshall’s Systems Analysis and Integration Laboratory as a systems engineer on the first flight of the Spacelab Tethered Satellite System (TSS) mission.

With respect to the avionics issues the Program Assessment Office raised—what really happened there was that management said, “Well, Arnie, you're so keen on these issues, we’d like you to come over to the Orbiter Project and lead the Orbiter Avionics Systems Office”. Sustainable water management is one of the most challenging issues of our time, especially in the arid western U.S. Adequate water supplies are crucial to maintaining the health of communities, rivers, and wildlife, and nothing is more important to agriculture’s ability . Program Management. In most previous flight development programs, the design and requirements of the mission were completed first, and then the contractors were brought in to bid on development. In Januarythe President announced a new civilian space policy focusing on exploration. As part of its preparations to implement that policy, NASA asked the NRC to explore long-range science and technology workforce needs to achieve the space exploration vision, identify obstacles to filling those needs, and put forward solutions to those obstacles.

Although there is widespread belief that overall project success is often heavily based on an effective team, there is no empirical evidence to support this belief. In this paper, the author explores the team development approach and assessment tools used at NASA that provide a basis for project management practitioners and researchers to take a closer look at the importance of the team.

The leaders of NASA during the Apollo program realized that they were pioneers in large program management as well as in space travel, but there has been little integration of the larger background to that story or systematic attention to the role of large project management in the issues NASA has faced since Apollo.

NASA’s project management capability has a long history that runs parallel with our missions and accomplishments. Through our strong connection to project management principles, it comes as no surprise that we have developed a comprehensive approach for establishing and maintaining professional competency in project management.

Nevertheless, given the concerns it heard expressed within NASA, academia, and industry about the amount of experience within the program/project management and systems engineering base in the robotic spaceflight program, the committee concluded that these concerns apply to both the human spacecraft and the robotic spaceflight programs at NASA.
